The 44th and current president of the United States, Barack Obama was born August 4, 1961 in Honolulu, Hawaii. He was a civil rights lawyer before pursuing a political career, first as Illinois State Senator, and later as the first African-American president of the United States. President Obama continues to enact policy changes in response to the issues of health care and economic crisis.

National Security
President Obama has banned the use of torture, closed secret CIA detention facilities, and reformed military commissions. He directed all executive departments and agencies to ensure the lawful interrogation of detainees, requiring them to comply with the Geneva Convention and U.S. law. Signed and passed the START Treaty with Russia, which will reduce the number of nuclear weapons deployed by Russia and the United States.
